1000s of boys between 4 and 19, “talibes”, beg on the streets of Senegal for their food and for money to give the “teacher” who controls them. Maison de la Gare’s center in Saint-Louis is a secure base for 100s of these boys each day, and a beacon of hope for 1000s more. The center offers literacy classes, a sports program, instruction in basic hygiene, medical care, art workshops, apprenticeship training and much more.
